Hari & Deepti

Hari Panicker is a graphic designer & illustrator, who likes to travel, explore different cultures, and is obsessed with collecting toys, vintage books, and cameras from flea markets around the world. Deepti Nair enjoys the wilderness and stories about them. She loves old books, and prefers to create art with her hands using tactile mediums, such as paper, clay, and pigments. Together, Hari & Deepti make shadow box art. “Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium," they believe. "It demands the attention of the artist while it provides the softness they need to mold it into something beautiful. It is playful, light, colorless and colorful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes the artist through a journey with limitless possibilities.” Hari & Deepti’s debut picture book, THE SEEKERS, was published by Knopf in August 2019. The story of a small band of brave adventurers who embark on journey to save their village, it was an Amazon Editors’ Pick. Kirkus raved: “B]old and beautiful illustrations. Mostly silhouettes against a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, they are full of movement and pattern, the roots and branches of trees reinforcing the sense of a web of life.” Most recently, THE SEEKERS was a Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards finalist.
