Sabina Gibson is a Quebec-based textile artist whose work she describes as “all about cuteness.” In her light-filled studio, surrounded by fabrics, threads, and small handmade props, every element plays a role in her unique artistic process.
Aiming to evoke immediate tenderness and warmth in her books, Sabina crafts whimsical and heartfelt characters that feel both huggable and alive. She begins by imagining a character’s personality, then sculpts it in felt before photographing it “in action” within one of her carefully staged scenes. Finally, she fine-tunes the lighting and colors to bring her characters convincingly to life.
Sabina is particularly proud of her Little Loves board book series for the youngest readers, including Sleep Tight, Polar Bear, which was selected by Dolly Parton for her Imagination Library book gifting program benefitting preschoolers. Another career highlight is the commercial success of her debut picture book, Unicorn Magic, which has sold more than 200,000 copies. Looking ahead, Sabina hopes to illustrate more stories set in lush, whimsical natural environments—especially those blooming with flowers.
When not making books, Sabina enjoys gardening, nature walks, and spending time with her family.
