Samantha Cotterill

Samantha Cotterill is a versatile artist working across multiple mediums. She frequently constructs intricate three-dimensional sets using paper, cardboard, wood, paint, and various drawing materials, which she photographs with a DSLR camera. She also enjoys creating simple digital illustrations on her Cintiq tablet, and experimenting with ink and gouache.

Samantha's artistic sensibility embraces humor in its simplest form, favoring straightforward storytelling reminiscent of Miffy the Bunny and the richly detailed worlds of Richard Scarry’s work. She prefers to steer away from overtly message-driven books, focusing instead on projects that naturally spark children’s imaginations. One of her Little Senses titles, This Beach is Loud!, was selected by Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for three consecutive years, reaching more than one million copies in circulation. Looking ahead, Samantha is eager to explore fresh, engaging ways to connect with her audience and is excited to develop new series that may incorporate 3D or interactive elements.

At home in upstate New York, Samantha shares a studio with her English bulldog, whose steady soundtrack of snores fills the creative space.
