Gemma Koomen is an artist and illustrator based in the wild beauty of Northumberland, where her studio looks out over expansive moors, forests, and rolling hills. She has been devoted to art since childhood, spending her days imagining new worlds with crayons and pencils. After earning her BFA from the Glasgow School of Art, Gemma has continued to find inspiration in life’s simplest joys—time in nature and the quiet observation of hidden worlds that reveal themselves to those who are quiet enough to notice.
Known for her gentle, whimsical style, Gemma’s work evokes a sense of peace, nostalgia, and enchantment. Her soft, earthy palette brings to life miniature, magical realms—inviting viewers to slow down, find comfort, and rediscover wonder in a fast-paced world.
Gemma has collaborated on a range of creative projects, from picture books to features in national publications such as Country Living magazine. Her paper goods and stationery are carried by shops and galleries worldwide, as well as in her own bespoke online store.
