Pete Oswald portrait

Pete Oswald is a Los Angeles-based artist, #1 New York Times bestselling children’s book author and illustrator, and award-winning animation production designer. Known for his playful, expressive style, he brings characters to life with visual simplicity, bold design, and emotional resonance.

On screen, he helped shape worlds for films including The Angry Birds Movie franchise and the Oscar-nominated ParaNorman. On the page, he illustrates the blockbuster Food Group series (written by Jory John), which began with The Bad Seed and has produced multiple New York Times bestsellers. His work further spans the Sleepy Sheepy series (written by Lucy Ruth Cummins), the Underwear Dragon titles (written by Scott Rothman), and the Cranky books (written by Phuc Tran), all continuing to build momentum and reach new readers.

Pete's most personal works are his self-authored picture books Hike and The Noise Inside Boys, both inspired by his deep connection to family and nature. Looking ahead, he has several original characters of his own set to debut soon.

When he's not making books, Pete enjoys making art with his sons and coaching their sports teams.
